Everyone says the way to get good at chess is to start by mastering an opening. You watch a YouTube video or read a book on the Slav, you feel like you get it, then you sit down to play it and your opponent opens 1.e4. No Slav. The one opening you wanted to practise never even shows up.

Studying a line and rehearsing a line are two different things, and there was nowhere good to rehearse. You can't make a bot or an opponent walk into your prep so you can sharpen it.
